When a college seeks accreditation for the whole institution or for a specialized program within the school, it will reach out to the proper accreditation body for the most current standards. With those in hand, the university will begin to put things in proper order according to the regulations. When that is complete they will request a review and go through the process. If they pass, they become accredited. Basically, accreditation means that the school or program is up to date with the most current trends in the field. It also means that proper status is given to the graduates. Without accreditation, students may not be eligible to take national tests in their field or to obtain the proper license to practice the trade. Be sure you ask about accreditation before choosing a program at any college.
