PART IV — Mountains, Deserts, and Everything Between

States 31–40

31. North Dakota — Where They Learn to Let Silence Speak

The prairie was quiet. So were they. But it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was peaceful. A shared breath.

32. Montana — Where They Feel Wild

They hiked near the University of Montana, mountains rising like giants. Renee laughed as she ran ahead. David chased her, catching her around the waist.

She kissed him breathlessly. “You make me feel alive.”

33. Wyoming — Where They Hold Each Other Close

Yellowstone’s geysers roared, but the nights were cold. They curled together under blankets, watching stars spill across the sky.

Renee whispered, “I think this is what home feels like.”

34. Colorado — Where They Reach New Heights

They rode a gondola in the Rockies. Renee gripped his hand tight. David kissed her cheek. “I’ve got you.” She smiled. “I know.”

35. New Mexico — Where They See Beauty in the Unexpected

Santa Fe glowed with color. They wandered art markets, Renee buying earrings she didn’t need. David said they matched her eyes. She blushed.

36. Arizona — Where They Stand on the Edge

At the Grand Canyon, Renee stood at the rim, breath stolen. David wrapped his arms around her from behind.

She whispered, “I want a life this big.” He whispered back, “With you, it will be.”

37. Utah — Where They Trust Each Other Completely

They hiked through red rock arches. At one narrow ledge, Renee froze. David offered his hand. She took it without hesitation.

38. Idaho — Where They Slow Down

They rented a cabin near Boise. Cooked dinner together. Read books. Held each other. It felt like a preview of forever.

39. Washington — Where They Feel the Future Approaching

Seattle was rain and coffee and bookstores. Renee said, “I could live somewhere like this.” David said, “I could live anywhere with you.”

40. Oregon — Where He Buys the Ring

In Portland, David slipped away for an hour. He bought a ring — simple, elegant, perfect. He kept it in his pocket, waiting for the right moment.
