🌿 A Day at Ohio University
When Jordan first arrived in Athens, he thought he was just here for a campus tour. But Ohio University has a way of pulling you in before you even realize it.
He stepped onto College Green, sunlight filtering through the old trees, and immediately heard laughter from a group gathered near Cutler Hall. The Student Alumni Board was handing out green-and-white wristbands for an upcoming spirit event. A few steps away, the Marching 110 was rehearsing, their sound echoing across the lawn with that unmistakable OU energy.
As he followed the brick paths toward Baker Center, he passed a cluster of tables where student organizations were recruiting. The BobcatTHON team was dancing to hype up their fundraiser. The Environmental Action Coalition was giving away seedlings. Someone from the Ohio University Esports Club invited him to a Smash Bros tournament later that night.
Inside Baker, the place buzzed like a small city. The Multicultural Center was preparing for an international food tasting. Downstairs, the Campus Involvement Center was helping new students find clubs that matched their interests—everything from Improv Comedy to Astronomy Club to OU Outdoors.
After lunch, Jordan wandered toward Ping Recreation Center. Through the windows he saw the intramural basketball league mid‑game, students cheering from the sidelines. Upstairs, a Zumba class pulsed with music, while the climbing wall was dotted with students challenging each other to reach the top. A group from OU Cycling rolled past on their way to a training ride along the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway.
Later in the afternoon, he found himself on Court Street, where student life spills naturally into the town. The Student Senate was hosting a voter‑registration drive outside Donkey Coffee. Inside, the Creative Writing Club had taken over a corner, sharing poems over lattes. Across the street, the Film Division students were setting up for a short‑film shoot, their equipment scattered across the sidewalk like a miniature Hollywood.
As the sun set, Jordan followed the sound of music back toward campus. On South Beach, the Acoustic Café group was hosting an open‑mic night. Students sat on blankets, some singing, some just listening, all wrapped in that unmistakable Athens vibe—laid‑back, creative, and welcoming.
By the time the stars came out over the hills, Jordan realized something important. Ohio University wasn’t just a place to take classes. It was a place where you could hike with friends in the morning, join a club meeting in the afternoon, cheer on the Bobcats at night, and still find time to sit under the trees on College Green and feel like you belonged.
He hadn’t even enrolled yet, but he already felt like a Bobcat.
